Drug Concentrations
Baytril concentrates in the urine via renal excretion, as well as active tubular secretion, greatly exceeding the corresponding plasma levels.
Active drug reaches the tissues of the urinary tract from the lumen via the urine, as well as from the systemic circulation.
Due to its amphoteric character and lipophilic properties, it readily crosses the blood-prostatic fluid barrier and attains high therapeutic concentrations within the prostatic tissue (20).
In this way, bacterial prostatitis, which otherwise may cause chronic recurrent infection of the urinary tract, can be competed effectively.
